Day 6 - Sail to Sami and my birthday No worse for wear from the night before, to the surprise of some, ready to face whatever the day may bring. A good way to kick off my 60th year on this planet. Thank you again to my dad and stepmom for this gift. As far as birthday presents go, this is way up there. We set sail in good winds, get lots of practice running different points of sail, and get some fun speeds. Satisfying. The winching is a lot of work - I'm definitely getting my exercise.
Mid-day we anchor at a beach for some swimming. The beach is typial of the shore-accessible areas. There are umbrellas and cots set out for those arriving by land. I don't go ashore here, but those of our party who do discover the pebbles :). I just swim from the boat.
Underway again I spot an interesting rock formation. Know nothing about it, just looked unusual.
By odd coincidence, today is Anthony's birthday also. So we celebrate both with a toast of pink prosecco I had gotten for the occasion, and go ashore. Group dinner is at 8 at one of the restaurants.
One of the cats I thought was particulary beautiful, and she must have sensed that because she came over and made friends. I couldn't even get a good picture of her.
Many others too but they avoided me.
The dinner experiene was interesting. I ordered rabbit and a small bottle of Raki - a potent greek liquor that my friend Aric introduced me to. Similar to vodka but a bit more zest to it, for lack of a better way to describe it. The drink was slow to arrive, the food never did. Randy kindly shared some of his meal with me - very tasty pork chops. At the end of the dinner Mila had a surprise for the two birthay boys - a cake! I'm not normally a cake guy but I had some and very much enjoyed it. It was good. The gesture was awesome.
When I went to pay for the drink the owner apologized for the service issue and said the drink is free. Works out. Then a night walk to the boat to settle for the night.
