8/23/18 Time for the big track. A few final checks the day before...
And then we're off to Oregon Raceway Park. Neil is bringing his D1, and Pearl (the original D4) is making an appearance as well. It's cool to see them all together and on track.
Valerie's car doesn't have a wing yet (still being made) but that's not a problem since she'll be taking it pretty easy today. We start with a couple moderately-paced sessions, then warning lights go off so we shut it down and come in to check things over. Looking at the logs the alarm was just a threshold set too low, but there is a different problem - the front chain seems to have split and ejected ALL its O-rings! None of us have ever seen this before.
The O-rings are not crushed or melted, simply split and ejected. Literally all of them. Other than that the chain seems to be OK but we don't want to risk it and decide to remove it. We'll just run RWD today.
With that done (and a mystery to be solved, hopefully, when we get back to the shop), the rest of the day runs smoothly. Valerie increases pace progressively and the car runs well.
Overall, a very good day. Pearl is going to need some service so we pack both D4s into the trailer and head back.
The chain issue is a head-scratcher at this point, it will be interesting to learn what actually did it and how. But it's good to know that the rest of the car is working well.
